"브랜더" 총지배인 '송죽원' 어린이들과 함께 크리스마스 트리 점등
2009년 11월 27일 저녁 그랜드힐튼 서울 총지배인 "번하드 브랜더"씨는 호텔 에이트리움 홀에서 서대문구 관내 보육원인 '송죽원' 어린이들과 가족들이 참석한 가운데 크리스마스 점등식을 가졌다. 한국 전통악기와 현대악기가 조화를 이룬 음악에 송죽원 어린이들이 케롤송을 불러 점등식 분위기를 한껏 즐겁게 하였다. 3살에서 6살 사이의 유아들도 부모들과 함께 초대받아 점등식에 참석했다. 그래드힐튼 호텔은 가장 먼저 한국에 크리스 마스 분위기를 고조시키는 데 일조하였다. 호텔 로비에 15 미터 가량되는 길다란 크리스마스 케익을 비치해 놓고 총지배인은 물론 요리사들과 손님들이 함께 빵을 잘라 호텔을 찾은 모든 손님들에게 나누어 준 것이 인상적이 었다. 
와인향을 곁들인 케익의 맛있는 계피향이 호텔 전체 행사장으로 퍼져 호텔을 찾은 손님들에게 즐거움을 선사했다. 이 행사에는 엘살바도르 "졸리아 아퀴레 드 메이" 여성대사가 남편과 함께 참석했고 과테말라 "라파엘 안토니오 살라자르갈베즈" 대사와 부인이 함께 그리고 이경식 코리아포스트 발행인 겸 회장이 참석하였다. 참석자들은 따뜻한 와인이 제공되어 겨울철이어서 더욱 마시기 좋았고 맛이 좋아서 그 따뜻함 속에서 나오는 독특한 향과 함께 더욱 즐거워 보였다."브랜더" 총지배인은 이날 행사 축하연설에서 손님들과 함께 참석한 송죽원 어린이들에게 고마움을 표시했다. 이 행사의 사회는 식음료 부의 키크고 잘생긴 독일인 "아쉴리 치즈만"씨가 맡았다. 그는 한국 사람처럼 한국말을 아주 잘 하여 사회를 한국어와 영어로 진행하여 참석한 모두가 이해할 수 있었다. 송죽원 아이들을 포함하여 크리스마스 트리 점등식에 참석한 참석자들은 호텔에서 제공한 뷔페만찬으로 맛있는 와인을 맛보며 즐거운 저녁식사를 함께하였다.이 크리스마스 점등식은 앞으로 있을 크리스마스와 추수감사절 시즌의 분위기를 고조시키는 서막이다.호텔에서는 김연자와 심수봉 두 유명 중견 가수의 송년 디너쇼를 진행할 예정이다. 김연자씨는 22~24일 양일간 그리고 심수봉씨는 25~26일 이틀 동안 열린다.
김연자씨는 카리스마 넘치는 무대 열정과 뛰어난 가창력으로 감동의 무대를 선사하는 트로트, 엔카의 여왕으로 알려져 있다. 그녀는 일본 데뷔 20주년 콘서트를 마치고 새로운 앨범으로 한국을 팬을 찾아온다. 그녀는 세계각국으로 콘서트 투어를 다니고 있으며 특히 김정일 위원장의 대외 이미지와는 반대로 그의 특별 초청으로 북한에서 공연을 하기도 했다. 그녀는 영화광으로 영화감독이고 예술과 문화를 사랑하고 '소나타의 여왕'이라는 별명을 얻었다.
'심수봉 30주년 기념-크리스마스 디너쇼'를 여는 심수봉씨 또한 대한민국 국민가요의 히로인으로서 명성을 얻고 있다. 그녀의 큰 후원자들 중에는 고 박정희 전대통령이 포함되어 있다.

GM Brender of Grand Hilton lights Christmas Tree with children from Songjukwon Children’s Home.
General Manager Bernhard Brender of Grand Hilton Seoul lighted the large Christmas Tree at the Atrium Lobby of the Hotel on the evening of Nov. 27, 2009 with children from Songjukwon Children’s Home and various families. Christmas carol sung by the Songjukwon children to the accompaniment of both traditional Korean and modern musical instruments added to the happy and pleasant ambience of the event. Invited also to the special ceremony were very small children, apparently ranging between three and six who came with their mothers and some with their fathers.
The Grand Hilton did a great job ushering the Christmas mood into Korea first a lot earlier than most other people..One of the highlights of the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony was the 15-meter-long Christmas cake at the Main Lobby which was cut by the guests and chefs as well as the general manager and given to all the guests at the Hotel lobbies and other floors adjacent to the event venue. The cake had the special aroma of cinnamon which, along with the aroma of the wine, permeated the entire even venue to the delight of the guests and visitors. Attending the ceremony, among other guests, were Ambassador Zolia Aquirre de May of El Salvador with the her spouse, Ambassador and Mrs Rafael Antonio SalazarGalvez of Guatemala, and Punlisher-Chairman Lee Kyung-sik of The Korea Post.
The guests appeared extra happy as they were served warm wine, which was not only easy on the stomach and throat on the winter evening but also very tasty with a unique aroma obviously deriving from the warmth of the wine.
Speaking to the guests at the meeting, General Manager Brender expressed his gratitude to the children of Songjukwon for their attendance at the meeting as well as the guests. Emceeing the event was a tall and handsome German-born Ashley Cheesman from the F&B Division of the Hotel. He spoke the Korean language very fluently, almost as well as the native Koreans, and spoke in both Korean and English for all to understand.The children of Songjukwon and all the guests attending the Christmas Tree-light ceremony were invited to a buffet dinner at the Hotel, where the guests had their fill of the nice wine. 
The Christmas Tree lighting is a prelude to a serious of excitement in store at the Hotel for the season of joy and thanksgiving. There are two year-end dinner shows with two noted Korean singers, Ms. Kim Yun-Ja and Ms. Sim Soo-Bong. The dates are December 23 and 24 for Ms. Kim and Dec. 25 and 26 for Ms. Sim. Ms. Kim has been away from Korea, mostly active in Japan, and presented performances at various important occasions in Japan and other countries around the world. She is especially noted to give her performance in Pyongyang reportedly at the special invitation of Chairman Kim Jong-Il of North Korea, who, belying his adverse image in the international politics, is a movie mania and director and a great lover of art and culture. Ms. Kim carries a nickname, ‘Queen of Sonata.’ Ms. Sim is also very popular among the society leaders as well as the masses in Korea. Among the great patrons of her is the late former President Park Chung Hee.
