한국의 정상가수 뺨치는 주한 외교사절들의 한국 노래 실력
- 영문월간 코리아포스트 창간 25주년 기념 디너에 300명의 하객 몰려 -
지난 12월 28일 서울 롯데호텔에서 있은 코리아포스트 창사 25주년기념 ‘주한 외교사절 및 국제 문화와 친선의 밤’ 행사가 열렸다.
주한 외교사절 100여명 및 정계, 재계, 학계등 300여명이 넘는 하객으로 대성황을 이룬 가운데 외교사절들로서는 니콜라스 탄디 담맨 주한 인도네시아 대사, 케올라 주한 라오스대사, 모하메드 살림 알하르티 주한 오만대사, 슬로보단 마린코비치 주한 세르비아 대사, 사히둘 이슬람 주한 방글라데시 대사, 아마두 다보 주한 세네갈 대사, 장 피에르 솔레 에마네 주한 가봉대사, 카를로스 알베르토 아르가나라즈 주한 아르헨 대사, 알바 플로리오 렝나리 주한 우루과이 대사등 부부 동반으로 100여명이 참석했다. 
정계, 재계, 학계에서는 이학렬 경남 고성군수, 화천 최광철 부군수, 상명대 이현청 총장, 한국외국어 대학교 김규진 부총장, 컬링협회장 겸 남경건설 김병래 회장, 선진엔지니어링 유상천대표, 하이다코 이재형회장, 베른하르트 브렌더 그랜드힐튼서울 총지배인, 벨라 김태훈회장, 정식품 정재원명예회장, ㈜코트파 이명훈 부사장, 등 300여명이 역시 함께 자리를 같이 했다. 
디너 이후에 시작된 여흥시간의 첫 테이프는 니콜라스 탄디 담맨 주한 인도네시아 대사가 끊어 놀랍고 풍부한 성량으로 한국 가요 ‘편지’를 불러 열렬한 박수를 받았다.
시보네 케올라 주한 라오스 대사 부인은 ‘만남’으로 축가를 불렀으며 주한 대만 대표부의 치 엔리앙 후앙 부대표는 유명 중국 영화 테마송인 ‘첨밀밀’을 중국풍으로 멋들어지게 불러 깊은 감흥을 남겼다.
세명의 축가에 이어 장식한 것은 인도대사관 행정관 디그비자이 낫트씨의 영양 쉬방기 칵칵르양의 전통 인도민속 무용 공연과 베트남 아티스트 니구엔 호아이 풍씨의 베트남 전통 악기 모노 코드 (Mono-cord) 공연, 한국의 유명한 가야금연주가 문태민씨의 가야금 연주 ‘아리랑’과 ‘꽃노래’가 이색적인 맛을 참석자들에게 선사했다. 
무용공연과 가야금 연주에 이어진 세명의 축가는 코리아포스트 Silver Juvilee의 감흥을 더욱 무르익게 했다. 울산 천만사의 주지인 박승억 큰 스님의 축가, 한국의 유명한 TV 탤런트인 김상순씨의 ‘흥부와 놀부의 호박씨에 얽힌 이야기’, 힐튼상사 힐튼 리 회장의 ‘사랑의 트위스트’ 축가는 주한 외교사절들에게 ‘Unusal (보통이 아니다)’, ‘Wonderful(훌륭하다)’는 찬사를 이끌어내기에 충분했다.
그렇지만 이날 행사의 최고 하이라이트는 역시 단연 한국외국어대 김규진 부총장의 부인이자 유명한 소프라노인 최연자 여사의 크리스마스 캐롤 ‘O Holy Night’과 품격있게 행사의 격조를 높인 성악 푸치니 오페라 잔니스키키중에 나오는 ‘오 사랑하는 나의 아버지’였다. 최여사는 행사 마무리를 하는 마지막 성악곡도 선사하면서 참석자들에게 ‘Great Success(대성공)’이라는 대찬사를 이끌어냈다. 
코리아 포스트지 창간 25주년 축전은 코리아포스트 미디어 발행인 이경식 회장의 환영 인사말, 주한 외교사절 및 참석 한국측 하객 소개, 이경식회장의 환영사, 알리셔 S. 오쿤조노브 주한 우즈벡 부대사가 대독한 비탈리 V. 펜 주한외교단장 (주한 우즈벡대사)의 축사, 안젤라 킴 2011 세계전통의상페스티벌 조직위원회 집행위원장의 축사 순으로 진행되었다.
환영사를 통해 이경식 발행인겸 회장은 “지난 25년간 저희에게 끊임없는 물심양면의 지원을 해주신 애독자 여러분과 주한외교 사절단, 지자체장 그리고 기업등 광고주의 성원에 힘입어 저희 코리아포스트는 일취월장해 지금은 영문월간과 일간 E-Daily 그리고 영문과 국문 등 2개의 인터넷판 등 모두4개의 매체로 성장하여 유기적으로 독자에게 봉사하고 있다.”고 지난 25년간의 과정을 감격어린 목소리로 술회했다.
코리아포스트가 주선하고 있는 주한외교사절들을 위한 지방축제 투어는 이제는 주한 외교가에선 빠질 수 없는 행사로 자리잡은 지 오래. 이에 관련해 이발행인은 “저희 코리아포스트는 위의 4개 매체를 발행하는 일 이외에 한국의 지자체 및 기업을 위한 주한 외교사절의 탐방을 주선하고 있습니다. 저희는 이 행사의 영향으로 주한외교사절들의 한국의 민속축제 등 문화를 이해하고 우호와 협력이 증진됨을 보고 무한한 기쁨과 보람을 느낍니다. 본인은 이 자리를 빌어 이 주한외교사절 탐방행사에 대한 여러분의 끊임없는 관심과 애정을 부탁드립니다.”며 코리아포스트 주관 지방축제 행사에 2011년에도 관심과 지속적인 참여를 당부했다. 
이 발행인은 그의 개인적 이력도 언급하면서 “저의 인사를 끝내기 전에 본인의 개인적인 말씀을 드리고저 합니다. 1970년대 후반에 본인은 영문일간지 코리아헤럴드에서 문화부장으로 근무를 하였습니다. 그런데 당시 전두환 대통령이 집권하면서 여러분도 잘 아시겠지만 언론통페합이라는 것을 결행하였습니다. 양심에 따라 직필하겠다는 친구들 다시 말해 약간 비판적인 언론인이 대상이 되어 전부 내쫓겼습니다. 본인은 별로 똑똑한 언론인도 아닌데 그냥 유탄을 맞아 추방이 되었습니다. 달리 할줄 아는 일이 없이 배운 것은 영어밖에 없는 저는 지금 현재의 코리아포스트를 창간하였습니다. 전화위복이 돼서 그 당시 동료 부장들은 그 후 정년퇴직을 해서 은퇴했는데 본인은 전두환 대통령이 추방해준 덕택으로 이렇게 정정히 현역으로 뛰고 있습니다.”고 말해 주한 외교사절들 및 참석자들의 많은 박수를 받았다.
특히 이 발행인은 코리아포스트지가 외교 전문 월간지임을 주목, “본인은 주한외교사절 여러분에게 항상 큰 은혜를 입고 있습니다. 특히 주한외교사절 단장 겸 우즈베키스탄 대사이신 ‘비탈리 펜’ 대사에게는 가장 큰 사랑을 받았습니다. ‘펜’대사님 덕택으로 본인은 그 나라 ‘타쉬켄트’ 국립대학으로 부터 명예박사 학위를 받았으며 또한 그 나라가 외국인에게 주는 최고의 서훈인 ‘도스트릭’ 훈장을 우즈베키스탄 대통령으로부터 받았습니다.”라고 밝히면서 서울외교단 및 우즈벡 대사관에도 감사의 말을 전하는 것을 잊지 않았다.
이어진 첫 축사에서 비탈리 V. 펜 주한 우즈벡대사는 알리셔 S. 오쿤조노브 부대사가 대독한 축사를 통해 “지난 25년동안 코리아포스트지는 한국의 가장 유명한 영문잡지로서 주한 외국인들에게 특히 주한 외교사절들에게 한국의 정치, 경제, 문화 등 모든 방면에 걸쳐 신뢰할 만한 정보원이 되어왔습니다. 주한 외교사절들은 코리아포스트지가 독자들에게 외국과 주한 대사관들의 중요한 이벤트들을 전달해온 프로페셔널한 그간의 노력에 경의를 표합니다. 이러한 주목할 만한 기능을 수행함으로써 코리아포스트지는 한국민들과 세계 각국 사이의 상호 이해와 협력에 큰 기여를 하고 있습니다.”고 치하했다. 
한-우즈벡 관계 증진에 코리아포스트가 크게 기여한 것과 관련해 펜 대사는 “주한 우즈베키스탄 대사로서 저는 1995년 주한 우즈베키스탄 대사관이 개설된 이래 코리아포스트지와 우즈베키스탄 대사관 사이의 긴밀하고 돈독한 협력관계가 지속되어 온 점을 높이 평가하고자 하오며 이런 협력관계는 여러 분야에서 우즈베키스탄과 대한민국 사이의 전략적 파트너십을 공고히 하는데 많은 도움이 되어왔다.”고 주한 외교사절들에게 설명했다.
2011년 세계민속의상 페스티발의 집행위원장으로서 코리아포스트의 창사 25주년에 진심으로 축하의 말씀을 드린다면서 안젤라 킴 2011년 세계민속의상 페스티발 집행위원장은 “2011년 세계민속의상 페스티발의 성공적 개최를 위해서 본인은 여기 계신 모든 분, 특히 주한 외교사절의 적극적인 관심과 성원을 바라 마지 않으며 동 행사는 대한민국과 세계 여러나라들과의 협력과 우의를 더 한층 증진시킬 것으로 확신한다”고 말했다. 
디너 만찬은 라임 향의 새우, 가리비, 새조개, 전복, 비트 퓨레, 김피타와 부드러운 컬리플라워 수프, 호주산 소고기 안심구이와 메쉬감자, 버섯과 야채볶음, 유기농 샐러드 및 유자 요구르트 드레싱, 코코아 카푸치노 무스와 신선한 과일등이 서브되어 외교사절들 및 참석자들의 입맛을 사로잡았다.
행사장인 롯데호텔 3층 연회장 입구에는 조각과 한국 전통 차 및 다과, 그리고 즐비한 축하 화환등이 손님을 맞이했으며 주한 외교사절들 및 배우자, 참석한 한국 하객들은 기념사진을 찍으면서 행사 저녁 내내 즐거운 시간을 보냈다.
특히 2011년 세계 민속의상 페스티발 이외에도 2011 대장경천년 세계문화축전의 전영채 홍보팀장도 참석해 천년을 이어온 고려인의 숨결에 대해 홍보할 수 있는 기회로 삼았다. 
참고로 2011 대장경천년 세계문화축전은 2011년 9월 23일부터 11월 6일까지 45일간 합천군 가야면 주행사장 해인사에서 열린다. 전영채 홍보팀장은 “고려는 국난극복을 위해 부처님의 말씀을 담은 경(經), 지켜야 할 계율(律), 부처님의 가르침을 연구해놓은 론(論), 삼장을 합친 불교경전의 총체인 고려대장경을 만들었다. 우리 문화의 힘, 천년의 지혜가 살아있는 고려대장경, 이제 우리는 대장경 간행 천년의 해를 앞두고 고려대장경의 가치를 재조명하며 그안에 담긴 우리 문화의 혼을 되살려 다시 천년을 내다보는 지혜의 미래를 그리려 한다”고 말했다.
코리아포스트 창간 25주년 Silver Jubilee 행사는 참석자들을 위한 럭키 드로우 행운권 추첨으로 즐거움을 더했으며 행사장을 나가면서 주한 외교사절들 및 참석자들은 훌륭한 행사였다면서 코리아포스트의 25주년을 축하하면서 앞으로 더 많은 발전을 기원한다고 이구동성으로 말했다.

Welcome speech by Chairman Lee Kyung-sik of Korea Post
His Excellency Ambassador Vitali V. Fen of Uzbekistan, concurrently Dean of the Seoul Diplomatic Corps, Honorable Mayor Lee Hak-Lul of Goseong City, Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am immeasurably grateful and honored for the kind attendance by all the distinguished guests here from Korean society as well as from the Seoul Diplomatic Corps to congratulate The Korea Post on its 25th anniversary of founding.
By virtue of the unreserved care and support given to The Korea Post by all the readers and members of the Diplomatic Corps and the advertisement supporters from the business community and the autonomous local governments, The Korea Post has grown steadfastly for the past 25 years and now consist of four different media units, namely the main print monthly edition of The Korea Post, the e-daily named Korean Daily Media Headlines (which incudes the daily humor) and the two real-time updated websites, one English and one Korean. The four media units have synergic effects in our effort to serve our readers and the Diplomatic Corps better.
Among the major activities of The Korea Post is organizing tours for the local government festivals and events and industrial establishments to broaden the exposure between the Korean people and the members of the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. We are happy to learn that our service helps the Korean society and the Diplomatic Corps in understanding each other better and promoting friendship and cooperation between Korea and all the countries diplomatically represented in Korea. I would like to take this opportunity to solicit continued support from the Seoul Diplomatic Corps for such efforts of The Korea Post.
Before closing my welcome remarks, I would like to relate my personal story where misfortune turned into a blessing. Back in the late 1970s when I was the Cultural Editor of the English daily, Korea Herald, the then President Chun Doo-Hwan carried out a reform of the media ridding them of any and all journalists who tried to report things right. I was not that excellent a journalist but I got a stray bullet, so to speak, and was fired. 
So I established The Korea Post and thanks to Mr. Chun Doo Hwan I am still active writing stories and attending National Day parties of 100 embassies in Korea which is a great pleasure and honor. My colleagues at The Korea Herald at that time, most of them my contemporaries, have retired, but I am still in active duty.
Iam deeply indebted to all the ambassadors and other members of the Diplomatic Corps. And I especially owe a great to the Republic of Uzbekistan. Thanks to all the good offices of His Excellency Ambassador Vitali V. Fen, I received an Honorary Doctorate from the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and an Order of Dostlik (Friendship) Decoration from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Chairperson Angela Kim of the Executive Committee of the 2011 World Traditional Costumes Festival Organizing Committee and President Jin Hyang-Ja of the Hanbok Promotion Association of Korea, who have given so much support and assistance for The Korea Post Silver Jubilee Celebration.
In closing, I would like to renew my pledge to serve our readers better, the Seoul Diplomatic Corps in particular, and I would like to solicit your continued support and assistance. Thank You

It is my great pleasure on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps. accredited in Seoul and of my own to extend you the warmest greetings on occasion of 25th anniversary of establishing The Korea Post English Monthly Magazine.
During its quarter-of-century-long history ‘The Korea Post’, as the most famous English Magazine of Korea, has become for the foreign community, especially, the Diplomatic Corp. in Seoul, a solid and reliable source of information about every aspect of the political, economic and cultural life of this country
The Diplomatic community highly praises an effort of the professional staff of ‘The Korea Post’, as it aims at informing its readers on significant dates and events of foreign countries and their diplomatic missions in Korea. By fulfilling this noble and delicate function the Magazine meaningfully contributes in to enhancing the mutual understanding and cooperation between Korean people and outside world.
We do also appreciate wise and unchallenged leadership of Mr. Lee Kyung-sik, the founder of ‘The Korea Post’, whose professional talent and notable human features had added to his credit, as one of the most famous Korean journalist.
As the Ambassador of my country I would like to highly evaluate the very cordial and fruitful cooperation has been established between the ‘The Korea Post’ and the Embassy of Uzbekistan since its opening in 1995, which helps us to promote the strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in various fields.
In conclusion I would like once again to congratulate you on such memorable date and wish the further success and prosperity of ‘The Korea Post’ English Monthly Magazine and its distinguished readers in years to come.

Congratulatory speech by Chairperson Angela Kim of the Executive Committee of the 2011 World Traditional Costume Festival
I would like to express my heart-felt congratulations to The Korea Post Media on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary as Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the 2011 World Traditional Costume Festival.
Together with the Hanbok Promotion Association of Korea, I am preparing to host the 2011 World Traditional Costume Festival for the promotion of understanding, cooperation and friendship between Korea and all the countries diplomatically represented in Korea through the medium of traditional costume culture.
For the successful implementation of our plan for the 2011 World Traditional Costume Festival, I would like to solicit kind support and assistance from all the distinguished guests here, especially the members of the Seoul Diplomatic Corps as the Festival is intended to further promote the friendship and cooperation between Korea and all the member countries of the Diplomatic Corps.
In closing, I would like to express my wish to all the distinguished guests here for the best of health and success throughout the New Year and beyond. Thank you.
