The Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Korea and a ‘very close person’ to President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea met with each other in Singapore and discussed the possibility of an inter-Korean summit meeting. North Korea offered Pyongyang for the venue but the South Korean representative counter-offered Seoul for the meeting for Chairman Kim Jong-il come to Seoul in the form of a return visit to former Presidents Kim Dae-Jung and Roh Moo-Hyun. The secret meeting in Singapore ended without reaching any agreement.

During last National Assembly elections, Moon caused a sensation by defeating ruling Grand National Party Candidate Lee Jae-Oh (known as the closest man to the President). The Supreme Court sentenced Moon to eight months in prison with a stay of execution for two years. Moon had been suspected of having received 600 million won in return for nominating a National Assemblyman under a proportional representation system.
